Sharks Gain Revenge for Prior Loss

The Sharks came out against the Red Wings with a mission. That was to beat the Wings and gain revenge for their loss the last time the two teams faced off against each other. And the Sharks successfully achieved that mission winning 5 to 2. The Sharks had goals from Thornton, Wallin, Couture, Heatly, and Couture again. Antti Niemi started for the Sharks and faced 27 shots with a .926 save %.

The Sharks took 35 shots against Howard and scored five. The penalties from the Sharks were by Joslin x2, Couture, Thornton, Mayers, and Wallin. The Shark and player with the most ice time in the game is Dan Boyle with 25:27 of ice time.

Player Profile: Joe Thornton

The Sharks picked up Joe Thornton from the Bruins in exchange for Brad Stuart, Wayne Primeau, and Marco Sturm. A lot of people in the Bay Area didn’t know much or anything about Joe Thornton. Many people were saying, “Wow! Is this guy really good enough to be worth 3 players.” And Joe prooved that he was.

Big Joe got his 500th point as a Shark when he set up Dany Heatley for a Power Play goal. Also the game on November 30,2010 was the 5 year anniversary of the trade that changed Joe Thornton from a Bruin into a Shark. In 5 years Jumbo Joe has accomplished a lot. He went from a plain forward to the player with the most assists and the captain of the team. He also is averaging 100 points per season. He has set up a young star for a 56 goal season. Joe alsowon the Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophies as a newbie to the Sharks. In his first 2 seasons in San Jose he became the 3rd player in NHL history to post two consecutive seasons with over 100 points joining great hockey legends Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. Also Thornton was elected the captain of the Western All Star Team during the the 2008-2009 season.

Power Down All Around

Even though the power was restored to the HP Pavilion about 6 hours before game time, the power wasn’t returned to the Sharks lineup. The Sharks came out flat and stayed flat the whole game. They ended up losing 5-3 to the Detroit Red Wings.The goals scored for the Sharks were from Dany Heatley, Benn Ferriero, and Ryan Clowe. The Sharks took only one less shot with 28 compared to the Wings 29. They Sharks also had twice as many penalty minutes with 8 and over twice as many giveaways with 17 as Detroit only had 8.
